Safety
  1. So... how do I know it's safe?
  2. Rest assured... all of the vessels either owned or operated by Ventures West or Four Points West exceed the stringent safety policies set down by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).  These policies apply to all vessels that are working commercially (ie charging money), be they sail training yachts, ferrys or dredgers.  These policies are there to make sure that the vessels are as safe as they possibly can be, and are fitted with the latest safety equipmeny and products.

  3. What about the skippers/drivers?
  4. Everyone who drives boats for Ventures West Ltd and Four Points West are fully certified to do so.  There are various assessments and courses that must be completed in order to work on boats.  On top of these, there are several certificqates that must be held, including: a valid First Aid certificate (renewed every 3 years), a VHF/DSC Radio Operators License, a Sea Survival Certificate and we must also hold a certificate of Medical Fitness.
  5. Many of our drivers and skippers are RYA instructors, in both Powerboating and Sailing, so you're in safe hands!

The MCA and RYA are there to help keep our sport safe and fun.  If you'd like to read more about them, clik on the links below.

Some formalities....

As a recognised RYA training centre (Four Points West), our base, vessels, safety equipment and drivers/instructors are government registered and licensed with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).  Vessels, equipment and procedures are all inspected annually by the MCA and RYA and subject to regular checks by Ventures West.

We are fully insured, including public liability and indemnity up to £10 million.

Ventures West operates a health safety policy, which is regularly reviewed and annually inspected.

Risk assessments are conducted for each activity or event.  Risk assessments can be provided for your group or organisation on request.

Terms and conditions for bookings and the purchase of gift vouchers are published on our website, or available in print on request.

We conduct a continual customer feedback process, which drives a continuous review and improvement process.

We are committed to improving energy efficiency and reducing our impact on the environment.  We work with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society and other environmental organisations to ensure we minimise any threats to marine ecology and wildlife through our own, and others', activities.

Ventures West has a policy for working with children under 16 years and we check any staff or associates working with unaccompanied children have current CRB checks.  As our activities are MCA licensed, AALA and other centre checks are not required for most of our activities.  We are able to work through local youth organisations for any activities that fall outside this.
