What to expect from your training course
Practical
Usually you will be one of no more than 4 students on any practical course, unless we are particularly busy when occasionally we may stretch to the maximum 5 students. If the course is a formal RYA training course, your week will commence on Sunday evening. For weekend courses, you join the boat on Friday evening.
Four Points West operates an all inclusive policy, which means we provide sleeping bags and liners, waterproofs and food for the whole trip. All you need to bring are waterproof shoes or boots, money for any evenings spent ashore (ending in the pub is usually the case!) and plenty of warm clothes. Try to avoid bringing suitcases and other bulky items which will be hard to stow and get on or off the boats.
Occasionally bad weather will affect us. More often than not, the course can be structured to accommodate this and your training experience will be unaffected. In the event that the combination of winds, sea state and tides make it unadvisable to go out, we will and where necessary, offer to extend the course with the provision of on-shore acommodation at no extra cost to you. If necessary, we will book you on to another course or offer a full refund.

When booking the RIB, expect to get wet. While we provide waterproofs and life jackets, a change of clothes is necessary, as is warm clothing and waterproof non-slip footwear. Trainers are fine but we recommend you bring a spare pair with you. Shorebased
Class sizes for most of the courses are limited to 8 students. Our theory classes are run on an evening, weekend or intensive residential theory and practical combined. All course materials are provided along with light lunches and refreshments.
